A new video featured on myUT has capitalized on the “super” job expected of resident advisers for the upcoming school year.

Each year, UT has a different theme for its resident adviser recruitment campaign. For the 2013-14 school year, the theme is “RA Superhero,” as the latest video features spoofs on some of the recent superhero films, including Captain America, the Incredible Hulk and Ironman, according to Erin Baker, project manager in the Office of Residence Life, who worked on the video.

“The Office of Residence Life truly believes that being an RA requires many ‘super powers,’” Baker said. “The heroic deeds of current RAs Megan Valley, Kelsey Dorka, Drew O’Donnell, Mitch Howard, Brandon Stewart and Jordan Braun were filmed during fall training in the RA commercial.”

Resident advisers are staff members of the Office of Residence Life that report to the hall directors of their specific buildings. RAs must try to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of the students in their buildings.

Baker said the primary goal of the commercial is to excite potential student leaders and get the word out about the resident adviser application process.

“The marketing campaign is designed to grab the attention of faculty, staff, students and other community members who know students that they think would be good for the position and to encourage them to attend the info sessions as well as apply to be an RA.”

Baker gave credit to Jordan Edelman, director at Carter Hall, who organized the resident adviser information sessions, and Ani Rodgers, a graduate practicum student in the Office of Residence Life, who came up with the theme and assisted Baker in carrying out the project.

The application is available here and in the Office of Residence Life located in Ottawa West and must be completed by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. All reference submissions need to be turned in to the office by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.
