soccer-ball-on-fieldA school record nine Toledo women’s soccer players have been named to the 2010 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as voted by faculty athletic representatives at the MAC institutions.

The Rockets were represented by seniors Erin Flynn and Brittany Hensler, juniors Kristen Lynn, Jaimie Morsillo, Alyssa Niese and Vicki Traven, along with sophomores Megan Blake, Natalia Gaitàn and Rachael Kravitz.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible.

A total of 37 student-athletes were named to this year’s squad. The number of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. The remaining student-athletes have been recognized as Academic Honor Roll selections.

Toledo, which was recently recognized for having a top 10 team grade-point average in the nation for the fifth consecutive year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, finished the 2010 campaign sporting a 15-4-2 overall record, 10-1-0 in the MAC. UT captured a share of its second MAC regular-season title in the last three seasons and made its sixth consecutive post-season appearance under Head Coach Brad Evans. The top-seed Rockets advanced to the MAC Tournament semifinals for a fifth consecutive season with a home victory against eighth-seed Ohio. In the semifinals, UT was upset by fifth-seed Western Michigan, 1-0.

On the offensive side of the ball, Toledo finished fourth in the MAC in goals (35), assists (28), total points (98) and shots (313). Defensively, UT posted 10 shutouts and ranked second in the conference in goals allowed (17).
