UT Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Kevin Hadsell announced the hiring of former Rocket All-American and four-time Mid-American Conference Champion Ari Fisher as an assistant coach for the program.

Fisher, who graduated from the University in 2012, joins the Toledo staff after spending the past semester as the assistant cross country and track coach at Augusta State University in Georgia.

“I am really excited for Ari to return to our program,” Hadsell said. “Her energy and her passion for the sport is exactly what made her a great runner and will transfer over to being a great coach. Her confidence and her optimism are contagious.”

Fisher, who was ranked No. 25 in the world at 5,000-meters (2011 indoor) with a time of 16:04.12, is one of the most successful student-athletes in both Toledo and Mid-American Conference history. She was able to lead the Rockets to back-to-back MAC Championships in cross country, as well as back-to-back NCAA Cross Country Championship appearances. Fisher is still the school record holder in the 5,000-meters.

“I’m stoked to work for Coach Hadsell and want to thank him for providing me this great opportunity,” Fisher said.

In 2012, Fisher finished ninth at the USA Cross Country Championships and was selected to represent the USA at the North American, South American and Caribbean Cross Country Championships, where the team won the gold medal.

Fisher will assist Hadsell in coaching of distance runners and serve as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
