The African People\u2019s Association will host \u201cFor Love of Africa\u201d at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the Student Union Ingman Room in an effort to erase stereotypes about the continent and its people while entertaining the audience.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope to teach the UT community that not all Africans are how the media depicts us to be,\u201d said Oreoluwa Ishola, president of the association. \u201cWe are very entertaining, hospitable and family-oriented people. Like any culture, we have our downfalls, but the strength of our people outweighs those negatives.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFor Love of Africa\u201d will include food, music, dancing, a fashion show, and an African rendition of the popular television show \u201cJersey Shore.\u201d Guests can expect to try authentic African food, including Jollof rice, puff puffs (African donuts), African salad, beef patties, chicken, fish and turkey.<\/p>\n
Ishola said the students hope this event shows people why they are still in love with their continent despite all the challenges it faces.<\/p>\n
Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for faculty and staff. Proceeds will benefit the African People\u2019s Association.<\/p>\n
