Steinbock, who has been leading The University of Toledo College of Law on an interim basis for the last year, has been selected to serve permanently as dean, UT officials announced June 6. <\/p>\n<p>The appointment is subject to approval by the UT Board of Trustees. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the past year, Dan\u2019s leadership has been a key component to the important progress the College of Law has made in teaching and legal scholarship,\u201d said Dr. William McMillen, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. \u201cThe College of Law will thrive under Dan\u2019s guidance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steinbock said it would be his goal to spread the word about the UT College of Law, bring wider attention to the nationally and internationally renowned law faculty, and highlight the rich learning environment available for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m honored to be selected and excited for the opportunities for the College of Law that lie ahead,\u201d Steinbock said. \u201cI have been a member of this faculty for 26 years, and I know firsthand both the strong teaching and scholarship and the outstanding graduates that are developed in this college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steinbock said he planned to continue his work of the past year to further enhance the college\u2019s reputation and its relationship with the Toledo legal community and bar associations, and to prepare for the institution\u2019s upcoming capital campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to becoming dean, Steinbock served as Harold A. Anderson Professor of Law and Values at the UT College of Law. Before coming to UT, he taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo and Seattle University. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from Yale University. <\/p>\n<p>Before entering law teaching, Steinbock worked as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Constance Baker Motley of the Southern District of New York, as a public defender with the Legal Aid Society in state and federal courts in New York City, and as associate and executive director of Prisoners\u2019 Legal Services of New York. <\/p>\n<p>Steinbock served as education coordinator in Cambodian refugee camps in Thailand for the International Rescue Committee and is co-author of <em>Unaccompanied Children: Care and Protection in Wars, Natural Disasters and Refugee Movements<\/em> (Oxford University Press, 1987), whose recommendations were adopted by United Nations agencies. <\/p>\n<p>He also has written law review articles and book chapters about refugee children, refugee law, search and seizure, identity documentation, and data mining.
