Lindsey<\/p><\/div>National gospel recording artist and UT Music Instructor Ronnie J. Lindsey will debut his new Gospel Choir Ensemble Friday, April 27, at 7 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.<\/p>\n

Special guests for the concert will be Jimmel Stinson, keyboardist, bass player and drummer, who will lead the band, and Lisa Hightower, gospel and jazz singer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am extremely honored to be the musical director for this very historic concert at such a great American university,\u201d Lindsey said. \u201cThis will be the first time in the University\u2019s history that a gospel choir has been offered for academic credit. So I want this first concert to be a teaser of what is in store for students in the fall. It promises to be a very powerful, emotional and impactful concert debut.\u201d <\/p>\n

Lindsey returned to his alma mater to be the first African-American gospel music instructor. In 2004, he graduated from UT\u2019s University College with a degree in vocal music and management, and continued his studies at Full Sail University, Winter Park, Fla. <\/p>\n

The first tenor and sometimes alto has worked with Ricky Dillard & The New Generation Chorale and recently received a Stellar Gospel Music Award with the large choir based in Chicago.<\/p>\n

As a member of Our Own Thing Chorale, a group based in Ann Arbor, Mich., that sings spirituals, Lindsey toured South Africa in 2005.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sing from my heart and I sing from experience,\u201d Lindsey said. \u201cI want people to have a greater appreciation of God, who has given me everything that I have today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Doors for the concert will open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. <\/p>\n
