{"id":17734,"date":"2012-05-02T04:24:38","date_gmt":"2012-05-02T09:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=17734"},"modified":"2012-05-01T15:26:23","modified_gmt":"2012-05-01T20:26:23","slug":"second-class-of-teacher-leaders-to-be-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/05_02_2012\/second-class-of-teacher-leaders-to-be-announced","title":{"rendered":"Second class of teacher LEADERS to be announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second cohort of area teachers to participate in a federally funded research program to improve science education in alternative energy and the environment will be announced this week.<\/p>\n<p>The LEADERS program, which stands for Leadership for Educators: Academy for Driving Economic Revitalization in Science, is funded by a $5 million grant from the National Science Foundation to improve K-12 science education with hands-on or Project-Based Science. <\/p>\n<p>The dozen teachers from Toledo Public Schools and school districts in Monroe County, Michigan, will be announced at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3, at an event outside the dean\u2019s office of the Judith Herb College of Education, Health Science and Human Service on the third floor of Gillham Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The teachers will begin taking UT courses in physics, chemistry, environmental science, engineering and education June 11. <\/p>\n<p>Upon returning to their districts, the participants will be teacher leaders who work with their colleagues so the whole district benefits.<br \/>\n\u3000<br \/>\nThe participants will take three summers of courses through the program and upon completion receive master\u2019s degrees. <\/p>\n<p>A first cohort of teachers from Toledo Public School and the Catholic Diocese of Toledo began their training in 2010.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Teachers from Toledo and Monroe, Mich., who will be participating in the Leadership for Educators: Academy for Driving Economic Revitalization in Science will be introduced Thursday, May 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":284,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,7],"tags":[],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17734"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/284"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=17734"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17734\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17734"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=17734"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=17734"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
