{"id":20181,"date":"2012-10-18T04:16:42","date_gmt":"2012-10-18T09:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=20181"},"modified":"2012-10-15T14:37:17","modified_gmt":"2012-10-15T19:37:17","slug":"local-entrepreneur-excited-to-partner-with-ut-to-promote-minority-owned-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/10_18_2012\/local-entrepreneur-excited-to-partner-with-ut-to-promote-minority-owned-businesses","title":{"rendered":"Local entrepreneur excited to partner with UT to promote minority-owned businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toledo continues to embrace diversity, partnering with a number of area businesses via Supply UT, an ongoing effort encouraging local minority-owned businesses to offer their services to the institution and promote themselves locally.   <\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_20298\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/McIntyre-close-up-by-Dan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20298\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/McIntyre-close-up-by-Dan.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"McIntyre close-up by Dan\" width=\"540\" height=\"424\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/McIntyre-close-up-by-Dan.jpg 540w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/McIntyre-close-up-by-Dan-300x235.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-20298\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Milton McIntyre owns Peak Electric Inc., one of the University\u2019s partnered businesses.<\/p><\/div>Milton McIntyre, owner of Peak Electric Inc., one of the University\u2019s partnered businesses, believes the effort expressed through Supply UT is encouraging and shows the institution\u2019s commitment to doing more business with its approved vendors.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The program is led by the Office of Equity, Diversity and Community Engagement in the External Affairs Division and is part of The University of Toledo\u2019s Minority Business Development Center\u2019s effort to offer assistance to early-stage, minority-owned companies by providing office space, training, mentoring and networking opportunities.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Toledo is proud to partner with this successful minority business,\u201d said Dr. Shanda Gore, associate vice president for equity, diversity and community engagement. \u201cOur continued relationship with Peak Electric has been extremely promising and continues to contribute to our mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four-employee Peak Electric has operated for 10 years \u2014 nine years as an electrical contractor and within the last year as a supply distributor for electrical materials to a number of customers, including the construction industry, local government and other large institutions.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe advancements made through the center with Peak Electric have a positive effect on all levels of business,\u201d said Lawrence J.
