The University of South Dakota\u2019s new dean of students is a familiar face to The University of Toledo community.<\/p>\n

\"Grieve\"<\/a>

Grieve<\/p><\/div>Dr. Kimberly Grieve, who began her position at the University of South Dakota in July, received both her PhD in leadership in higher education and master\u2019s degree in education from UT.<\/P><\/p>\n

\u201cThe curriculum that was offered in the UT leadership and higher education program really gave me a good foundation and understanding to be a well-trained professional,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Grieve said the classes she took while at UT, combined with research and reflection, helped her gain a good understanding of higher education and what students need to succeed. One of the most beneficial things she experienced was the cohort model of education, which allowed her to work with different university professionals and gain a broader perspective.<\/p>\n

Before her current position, Grieve was the dean of student retention at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, and held various positions there adding up to more than 20 years of experience in student and academic affairs.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo get here it\u2019s taken a combination of my education as well as my diverse experience in student affairs,\u201d Grieve said.<\/p>\n

The higher education program at UT features a master of education program with an off-campus professional master\u2019s cohort and an on-campus master\u2019s program. The PhD program focuses on administration and policy analysis, with an on-campus four-year college and leadership cohort and an Ohio community college leadership cohort.<\/p>\n
