Intramural battleship is becoming a popular sport on college campuses.<\/p><\/div>From the classic board game to the silver screen, the idea behind Hasbro Inc.\u2019s Battleship has found its ways to the Student Recreation Center at The University of Toledo as a new competition.<\/P><\/p>\n

On Friday, April 5, from 7 to10 p.m., teams will go head to head in the first battleship competition at the University. <\/p>\n

The competition has been gaining popularity across the nation at universities and is showing promise to become a regular intramural event. <\/p>\n

The competition involves teams of four competing in canoes trying to sink each other. To do this, each team is given buckets and a shield to defend them while trying to fill the other teams\u2019 canoes with water until the last \u201cship\u201d remains afloat. <\/p>\n

\u201cThese new ideas are exciting and important because they bring new opportunities to get involved,\u201d said Alexandria Spinks, program coordinator of aquatics at the Student Recreation Center. \u201cNot everyone always wants to play basketball, football or softball, and this is a fun new way to be active without being as physically demanding. We really want to offer everyone chances to participate in our programs.\u201d <\/p>\n

All students, faculty, staff and members of the community are welcomed to come watch the competition in the swimming pool at the Student Recreation Center. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
