{"id":24887,"date":"2013-04-29T04:23:57","date_gmt":"2013-04-29T09:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=24887"},"modified":"2013-04-29T09:31:23","modified_gmt":"2013-04-29T14:31:23","slug":"canadian-royal-navy-to-recognize-professors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/04_29_2013\/canadian-royal-navy-to-recognize-professors","title":{"rendered":"Royal Canadian Navy to recognize professors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When a University of Toledo graduate student and member of the Royal Canadian Navy was deployed to Vancouver, British Columbia, for the 2010 Winter Olympics, he was in the middle of the academic year. <\/p>\n<p>Brad Corlett, a native of Windsor, Ontario, is working on his PhD in higher education administration, and the timing of his deployment put him several classes behind in his course work.<\/p>\n<p>However, because of the efforts of Dr. Ron Opp, associate professor of educational leadership and coordinator for the Higher Education Doctoral Program, and Dr. David Meabon, associate professor of higher education, Corlett is nearly caught up. Opp and Meabon have been flexible enough to work around Corlett\u2019s unique schedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am greatly indebted to Dr. Opp and Dr. Meabon for their patience and understanding during my ongoing active duty,\u201d Corlett said. \u201cI use a great deal of knowledge and skills obtained during my studies each and every day in my role as defence learning network coordinator for the Navy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two UT faculty members will be honored in a formal ceremony by the Royal Canadian Navy Tuesday, April 30, at 1 p.m. at the UT Veterans Memorial Plaza next to the Memorial Field House. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the foyer on the third floor of Gillham Hall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to be recognized in this way,\u201d Opp said. \u201cIt was already particularly challenging to work with someone from Windsor, but it became especially challenging when he was deployed. But over the last year, we have gone out of our way to try to catch him up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony will last about 15 minutes and will include remarks from Dr. Penny Poplin Gosetti, vice provost for assessment and strategic planning, Opp, Meabon and Corlett. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Royal Canadian Navy will recognize two UT education professors who assisted a student who was deployed during the middle of the semester.
