{"id":25946,"date":"2013-07-29T09:50:12","date_gmt":"2013-07-29T14:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=25946"},"modified":"2013-07-29T09:50:12","modified_gmt":"2013-07-29T14:50:12","slug":"end-of-summer-research-symposium-to-be-held-july-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/07_29_2013\/end-of-summer-research-symposium-to-be-held-july-31","title":{"rendered":"End of Summer Research Symposium to be held July 31"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Undergraduate students will have the opportunity to present their work at the End of the Summer Research Symposium Wednesday, July 31.<\/p>\n<p>Students will give oral and poster presentations at the program, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Sullivan Hall on Main Campus.<\/p>\n<p>The presentations will be based on what the undergraduates have learned in their summer seminar class, which met every Thursday May 30 through July 25.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of Undergraduate Research provides funding for undergraduates interested in the three months of summer research. <\/p>\n<p>Biology, history, chemistry, bioengineering, fine arts, environmental science, pharmacology and civil engineering are some of the topics to be presented at the symposium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a multidisciplinary, eclectic mixture of different domains,\u201d said Jamie Teeple, a graduate assistant in the Office of Undergraduate Research. \u201cWe also want to make sure students in the humanities have a voice, as these students represent an integral source of the University\u2019s rigorous research initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taking part will be 37 Undergraduate Summer Research and Creative Activity Program students, 11 First-Year Summer Research Experience students, three UT-City of Toledo Internship Program students, and 12 Research Experiences for Undergraduate Physics students. They will present with their advisers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year was almost standing room only,\u201d Teeple said of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Teeple has worked closely with Dr. Tom Kvale, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, to plan the symposium. Kvale will emcee the event.
