Northern Ohio\u2019s 10th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS will be held for the first time on The University of Toledo\u2019s Main Campus Sunday, Oct. 6.<\/p>\n

\"WalktoDefeatALS_main_logo\"<\/a>Registration for the 2013 event will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the walk will start at 1 p.m. at the Health Education Building.<\/P><\/p>\n

The walk is the ALS Association\u2019s biggest annual event that raises money for support and research.<\/p>\n

Last year, family, friends and co-workers formed a team to honor Diane Hymore, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig\u2019s disease. She was director of senior administrative operations and longtime executive secretary to UT President Lloyd Jacobs.<\/p>\n

The UT team, Nana\u2019s Flowers of Hope, continues to support Hymore. In 2012, the team surpassed its initial goal of $1,750 in just days; for 2013, it is looking to raise $4,000.<\/p>\n

The goal of the Northern Ohio Chapter is to raise $115,000 through the walk.<\/p>\n

UT Women\u2019s Basketball Coach Tricia Cullop will be the honorary chair of the walk, and members of the basketball team also will participate in the event.<\/p>\n

There will be several activities for children: face painting, balloon animals, crafts, games and refreshments. <\/p>\n

UT\u2019s Rocky and Rocksy, as well as Bowling Green State University\u2019s Freddie the Falcon and Ronald McDonald, will be among the special guests mingling with participants. Local entertainer Eddie Boggs also will perform.<\/p>\n
