October is the month to celebrate where the LGBTQA community has been and where it is going.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Listed by date, events scheduled to increase awareness for LGBTQA History Month include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, Oct. 3 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Intimate Partner Violence in the LGBTQ Community, 5 to 7 p.m., Student Union Room 3018.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Spectrum Drag\/Talent Kickoff Event, 8 to 10 p.m., Rocky\u2019s Attic in the Student Union.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, Oct. 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 LGBTQA Homecoming Tailgate, 1 to 3 p.m., the Q near Parks Tower.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, Oct. 8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cSocieties in Balance: Re-Thinking Matriarchy in Modern Matriarchal Studies\u201d by Dr. Heide Goettner-Abendroth, pioneering scholar known for her work on modern matriarchal studies, 7 p.m., Student Union Ingman Room.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, Oct. 10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cBanned Books: Censorship of LGBTQ Content in Books for Youth\u201d by Dr. Sharon Barnes, UT associate professor of women\u2019s and gender studies, 3:30 p.m., Carlson Library Fifth Floor. This event is part of the University\u2019s 16th annual UT Banned Books Week Vigil.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Spectrum Hate Crimes Vigil, 8 to 10 p.m., Student Union Steps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, Oct. 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 National Coming Out Day Celebration, noon to 2 p.m., Student Union Room 2500.
