{"id":27407,"date":"2013-11-07T04:30:32","date_gmt":"2013-11-07T09:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=27407"},"modified":"2013-11-04T16:46:44","modified_gmt":"2013-11-04T21:46:44","slug":"learn-to-negotiate-at-business-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/11_07_2013\/learn-to-negotiate-at-business-program","title":{"rendered":"Learn to negotiate at business program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UT Center for Family and Privately Held Business will hold its annual recognition celebration\u2028\u2028 Tuesday, Nov. 19, at \u20285:30 p.m. at the Sylvania Country Club.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_27415\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Joshua_Weiss_biography.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27415\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Joshua_Weiss_biography.png\" alt=\"Weiss\" width=\"190\" height=\"235\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27415\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-27415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Weiss<\/p><\/div>Dr. Joshua Weiss, co-founding senior fellow of the Global Negotiation Institute of the Harvard Negotiation Project, will give a presentation titled \u201cHow to Get to Yes When the Road is Paved With No.\u201d<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>\u201cThe goal of this presentation is to make you a better negotiator,\u201d said Angie Jones, program manager at the Center for Family and Privately Held Business. \u201cThis event will give you the tools required to successfully negotiate with customers, employees, suppliers and even family members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weiss will cover:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Strategies and tactics to help you gain confidence in negotiating;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0How to negotiate with different people in a variety of relationships;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0How to focus on interests, not positions; and<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Ways to employ objective criteria in negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese negotiation tips will not only help you in your family business, but also in all aspects of your personal and professional life,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Center-for-Family-Business-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Center-for-Family-Business-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Center for Family Business logo\" width=\"468\" height=\"181\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Center-for-Family-Business-logo.jpg 468w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Center-for-Family-Business-logo-300x116.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" \/><\/a>Funded by the Jim and Celia Findlay Foundation, the evening will include networking, a light supper, and recognition of outgoing Center for Family and Privately Held Business advisory board members.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>\u201cWe will pay special tribute to longtime center supporter and our dear friend, the late Jim Findlay, at this program,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n<p>Findlay, a respected business leader known for his philanthropy and love for UT, died Oct. 20 at age 87. A co-founder of the Center for Family Business, Findlay and his wife, Celia, were both UT graduates who gave back to their alma mater.
