UT President Lloyd Jacobs uses this week\u2019s video address to make two announcements that will have a positive impact across the University community.<\/p>\n
During Friday\u2019s taping of \u201cA Presidential Perspective,\u201d Jacobs applauded the efforts of enrollment staff, faculty and students to bring in more than 23,000 students this fall. Enrollment figures will be finalized Sept. 8 and will be released Sept. 9, but Jacobs said that the somewhat unanticipated growth should be enough to delay the need for the previously announced furlough program.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though the numbers are not yet final, we have every reason to believe that we will enjoy our seventh consecutive semester of growth,\u201d Jacobs said. \u201cOur budget was built and revised with certain enrollment assumptions in mind, and we can safely say that our expectations have been surpassed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The University previously had announced plans to close for the week between Christmas and New Year\u2019s Day, but Jacobs said that plan now can be deferred.<\/p>\n
\u201cShould it become necessary to revisit the furlough program, we will do so,\u201d Jacobs said. \u201cHowever, at the moment, we are optimistic enough to put it on hold for the time being.\u201d<\/p>\n
