{"id":33085,"date":"2015-02-24T12:13:27","date_gmt":"2015-02-24T17:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=33085"},"modified":"2015-02-24T12:16:17","modified_gmt":"2015-02-24T17:16:17","slug":"howards-second-forum-focuses-on-success-of-uts-academic-health-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/02_24_2015\/howards-second-forum-focuses-on-success-of-uts-academic-health-center","title":{"rendered":"Howard&#8217;s second forum focuses on success of UT\u2019s academic health center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Christopher Howard shared his experiences in the pharmaceutical industry and vision for The University of Toledo Medical Center in his second presidential search open forum on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_33086\" style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Howard-by-Anthony.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33086\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Howard-by-Anthony.jpg\" alt=\"Howard\" width=\"360\" height=\"540\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33086\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Howard-by-Anthony.jpg 360w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Howard-by-Anthony-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-33086\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Howard<\/p><\/div>Howard, one of three finalists to be UT\u2019s 17th president, said the next president of the institution needs to build synergies between Main Campus and Health Science Campus and empower the leadership to create a model for the University\u2019s academic health center that ensures the clinical enterprise is large enough to support its academic mission.<\/p>\n<p>He is the president of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit to Health Science Campus, Howard tailored his talk to focus on the president\u2019s role in supporting translational research, addressing funding challenges impacted by the Affordable Care Act reimbursement model and the imperative to serve indigent patients, keeping up with medical technology, and improving patient and student satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>We live in a Coke Zero world, he said, noting the advertisement where the young person featured keeps saying \u201cand\u201d to add to the list of his demands in a job negotiation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s going to happen in places like this is patients and students want zero defect care and a state-of-the-art facility and hospitality, while students want world-class faculty and access to student residencies and fellowships and a reasonable cost.
