Dr. Blair Grubb of The University of Toledo Medical Center has been recognized as the \u201cDoctor of the Decade.\u201d <\/p>\n

Grubb was awarded the Medical Professional of the Decade Award from the British Heart Rhythm Society and Arrhythmia Alliance in Birmingham, England, on Oct. 5.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the British Heart Rhythm Society and Arrhythmia Alliance, Dr. John Camm presented the Medical Professional of the Decade Award to Dr. Blair Grubb. They were joined by Dr. Nick Linker and Dame Trudie Lobban.<\/p><\/div>Grubb, director of Electrophysiology Services at UTMC and Distinguished University Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, is one of the only non-British subjects to have received recognition from these organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is gratifying to know that my work has had an impact far beyond the confines of Toledo or Ohio or the United States,\u201d Grubb said. \u201cMy work has helped medical professionals everywhere better understand and treat autonomic disorders and has helped better the lives of untold millions of people who suffer from these disorders all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The British Heart Rhythm Society and Arrhythmia Alliance are the largest in the United Kingdom to deal with heart rhythm and autonomic disorders. The award was presented by Dr. John Camm, the UK\u2019s leading cardiologist who has treated the Queen of England.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis individual is described as having a dignified and quiet demeanor who demonstrates compassion, humility, patience and thoughtfulness in his interactions with staff, colleagues, medical students and patients,\u201d Camm said when he presented the award to Grubb. \u201cHe is the quintessential gentleman and scholar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grubb said it is rewarding to know that he has helped give birth to an entire new field of medicine: autonomics.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am proud to have made The University of Toledo one of the world’s leading centers for this emerging field of medicine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
