{"id":38852,"date":"2016-03-25T03:58:33","date_gmt":"2016-03-25T07:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=38852"},"modified":"2016-03-24T14:09:22","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T18:09:22","slug":"new-fieldturf-surface-to-be-installed-at-glass-bowl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/03_25_2016\/new-fieldturf-surface-to-be-installed-at-glass-bowl","title":{"rendered":"New FieldTurf surface to be installed at Glass Bowl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toledo will begin installation of a new FieldTurf playing surface in the Glass Bowl following the conclusion of spring football practice, UT Vice President and Athletic Director Mike O\u2019Brien announced yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The new FieldTurf surface is called Revolution 360, and features the latest in cutting-edge playing surface technology. The new surface will replace a FieldTurf surface that was installed in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_38853\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?attachment_id=38853\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38853\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38853\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/web-Glass-Bowl-field-turf-rendering.jpg\" alt=\"This rendering shows what the new FieldTurf surface may look like in the Glass Bowl.\" width=\"540\" height=\"286\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/web-Glass-Bowl-field-turf-rendering.jpg 540w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/web-Glass-Bowl-field-turf-rendering-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-38853\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This rendering shows what the new FieldTurf surface may look like in the Glass Bowl.<\/p><\/div>The Rockets will make their debut on the new field in their home opener vs. Maine Saturday, Sept. 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very pleased that we will have an outstanding new FieldTurf surface ready for the 2016 season,\u201d O\u2019Brien said. \u201cOur new field will help the Glass Bowl maintain its reputation as one of the truly outstanding college football stadiums in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny time you can make improvements to your stadium, it\u2019s good for the program,\u201d said Head Football Coach Jason Candle. \u201cOur players are excited about playing on a new FieldTurf surface next fall.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The look of the new field will not change dramatically, according to Tim Warga, UT assistant athletic director for operations and events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made a few tweaks, but overall we felt we wanted to stay with our current look,\u201d Warga said. \u201cThe bench areas will be solid blue, and the numbers on the field will be outlined in blue, but otherwise from a fan\u2019s perspective, it will look very similar to our current field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Glass Bowl was built in 1936 and had a grass playing field until Astroturf was installed in 1974. The Rockets stuck with Astroturf until 2001 when a new surface called Nexturf made its debut.
