Mark Beier, the longtime radio play-by-play voice of Toledo Rockets football and men\u2019s basketball who announced his retirement in March, will be honored by the Toledo City Council Tuesday, April 26, at 4 p.m. <\/p>\n

The council will present a resolution recognizing his contributions to UT in his 21 years as the \u201cVoice of the Rockets.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beier<\/p><\/div>In addition to calling play-by-play for the Rockets, Beier also hosted the \u201cUT Coach\u2019s Show\u201d for football and men\u2019s basketball on the Rocket Radio Network since 1995. He also hosted \u201cRocket Replay,\u201d a 30-minute coach\u2019s highlight television show from 1995 to 2001. He is the voice of \u201cThe Rocket Insider,\u201d a 90-second news vignette that runs on WTVG-TV, and has served as emcee for countless football, basketball and Varsity \u2018T\u2019 Hall of Fame banquets. <\/p>\n

In 2014, Beier was honored by the Varsity \u2018T\u2019 Club with the Distinguished Service Award for his efforts on behalf of the Rockets.<\/p>\n

Beier is perhaps best known for his trademark call, \u201cTouchdown R-r-r-r-r-r-r-rockets!\u201d He began his journey with UT in the 1995 football season, a year that saw star running back Wasean Tait power the Rockets to an 11-0-1 season and a victory in the Las Vegas Bowl. A year later, he also assumed the play-by-play role for men\u2019s basketball.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Beier called the action for 252 UT football games and 607 men\u2019s basketball games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
