Although it can be an uncomfortable topic, men shouldn\u2019t shy away from discussing sexual health concerns with their physician.<\/p>\n<p>Men\u2019s health issues such as erectile dysfunction, low testosterone or incontinence are not only a quality of life concern, but also can be linked to potentially serious health risks, including heart disease, hypertension and diabetes. <\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_21955\" style=\"width: 226px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/02_08_2013\/urologist-presented-on-topic-of-failed-surgeries-at-conference\/singla-web\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21955\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21955\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Singla-web.jpg\" alt=\"Singla\" width=\"216\" height=\"324\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21955\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Singla-web.jpg 216w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Singla-web-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-21955\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Singla<\/p><\/div>June is Men\u2019s Health Month, and UT Health physicians say it is an excellent time for men to take inventory of how they are feeling and to take action if they are experiencing sexual health symptoms. It is important for a man to schedule an appointment with a urologist if he experiences any the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Erectile dysfunction with or without a decrease in sexual desire;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Urinary incontinence or difficulty urinating;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0A lump or mass in the testicles;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0An elevated PSA level or abnormal prostate exam;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Infertility;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Andropause (male menopause); or<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Peyronie\u2019s disease (penile curvature).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOftentimes we initially see a patient because he is having difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection,\u201d said Dr. Ajay Singla, UT Health vice chair of urology and director of the UT Men\u2019s Health Clinic. \u201cWe may then find the patient has an underlying medical condition such as diabetes, vascular disease or obesity causing his symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The diagnosis and management of these conditions can be challenging and in some instances could require a more collaborative approach to treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The UT Men\u2019s Health Clinic opened in 2015 to provide the only comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinic of its kind in the region. Since that time, the clinic has grown from three specialists to a team of seven health-care providers in urology, cardiology, endocrinology, physical therapy, family medicine and nutrition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis collaboration allows us to treat the patient as a whole and address all of his health issues during one appointment,\u201d Singla said. \u201cWe are finding our patients appreciate the convenience of seeing multiple specialists at one time and are pleased with the customized medical plans we provide.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>To better consolidate services, the UT Men\u2019s Health Clinic is moving Tuesday, June 28, to the Regency Medical Campus located at 1000 Regency Court. The clinic sees patients on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. <\/p>\n<p>The medical team\u2019s emphasis is on common conditions affecting the urological, sexual and reproductive health of men.
