{"id":42392,"date":"2016-11-16T03:57:02","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T07:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=42392"},"modified":"2016-11-16T09:58:39","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T13:58:39","slug":"can-reptiles-survive-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/11_16_2016\/can-reptiles-survive-climate-change","title":{"rendered":"Can reptiles survive climate change?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s possible the turtle population could be made up entirely of one sex as a result of warming temperatures, according to an evolutionary ecologist and global change biologist at The University of Toledo.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_42393\" style=\"width: 226px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/11_16_2016\/can-reptiles-survive-climate-change\/refsnider\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42393\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42393\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Refsnider.jpeg\" alt=\"Refsnider\" width=\"216\" height=\"240\" class=\"size-full wp-image-42393\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-42393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Refsnider<\/p><\/div>Dr. Jeanine Refsnider, assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences, will take on the topic in her lecture titled \u201cCan Reptiles Survive Climate Change?\u201d Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. at the UT Lake Erie Center, 6200 Bayshore Road in Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>The event is part of the UT Lake Erie Center Fall Lecture Series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough we rarely hear about them, reptiles are particularly vulnerable to climate change,\u201d Refsnider said. \u201cReptiles are entirely dependent on the environment around them to regulate their body temperature.
