For many professionals, keeping an up-to-date resum\u00e9 may seem like an impossible task. <\/p>\n
Staff members who have been meaning to refresh their resum\u00e9, or do not have one, are encouraged to attend the upcoming brown-bag seminar hosted by the Professional Staff Association to obtain the tools to build their own brand.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe program will cover basic resum\u00e9 formats, suggestions for getting started writing your resum\u00e9, and also advice on keeping it up to date,\u201d said Emily T. Creamer, assistant director for engineering transfer programs.<\/p>\n
Heather Karns, assistant dean for career services and alumni affairs for the College of Law, has assisted professionals with career development, document preparation and coaching for more than 15 years, and will speak at the seminar.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes we are so busy taking care of our jobs, our families, etc. we neglect staying on top of things that seem daunting or unnecessary,\u201d Karns said. \u201cI don\u2019t think it is uncommon for professionals who have not transitioned to a new role or searched for some time to have a resum\u00e9 that is out-of-date. Like many things, if you let this go on for too long, updating can seem overwhelming. The workshop should leave the participants with tips and ideas for updating and for starting from scratch if they don\u2019t currently have a resum\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n
Creamer emphasized that keeping an updated resum\u00e9 does not imply that a person is seeking a new position: \u201cIt is useful for annual evaluations as well as critical for applying for University awards such as the Outstanding Staff Award.\u201d<\/p>\n
The brown-bag seminar, \u201cResum\u00e9 Writing 101 Eith Heather Karns,\u201d will be held Thursday, April 20, in Rocket Hall Room 1530, and Tuesday, April 25, in Collier Building Room 1210.<\/p>\n
Both sessions will take place from noon to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
