{"id":49293,"date":"2018-04-06T03:33:20","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T07:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=49293"},"modified":"2018-04-04T16:38:51","modified_gmt":"2018-04-04T20:38:51","slug":"events-slated-for-asian-american-and-pacific-islander-heritage-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/04_06_2018\/events-slated-for-asian-american-and-pacific-islander-heritage-month","title":{"rendered":"Events slated for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several events are planned at The University of Toledo to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.<\/p>\n<p>While Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated in May, UT will hold events in April before the semester ends so more students can take part in festivities, according to Danielle Stamper, interim program coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Student Success. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?attachment_id=49294\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-49294\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/poster.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"699\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-49294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/poster.jpg 540w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/poster-232x300.jpg 232w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;Celebrating in April allows our entire campus to celebrate multiple Asian American and Pacific Islander cultures and appreciate the richness they bring to our society,&#8221; Stamper said.<\/p>\n<p>Listed by date, events will include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Tuesday, April 10 \u2014 Night Market, 6 to 9 p.m., Thompson Student Union Auditorium. Student organizations will set up booths to provide food and games at this free event.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Thursday, April 12 \u2014 Lecture Luncheon, \u201cDynamics and Development of the Korean Peninsula: Perspectives and Prospects,\u201d noon, Memorial Field House Room 2420. Speakers will be Ben Davis, professor of law; Dr. Paul Chonkun Hong, professor of information operations and technology management; and Dr. David J. Nemeth, professor of geography and planning. <\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Monday April 16 \u2014 Chinese American Student Association End-of-the-Year Potluck, 7 p.m., location to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Tuesday, April 17 \u2014 9-Man, 6:30 p.m., Student Recreation Center. Learn about and play nine-man volleyball, a game Chinese immigrants brought to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Wednesday, April 18 \u2014 Curry Contest, 7 p.m., Horton International House. Join the Japanese Student Association for this hot time.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Saturday, April 21 \u2014\u00a0Filipino America Association Picnic, time and location to be announced. Stop by for the end-of-the-year picnic and find out who will be the 2018-19 e-board members.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u00a0Hot Pot Night, 6 p.m., Horton International House.
