{"id":51006,"date":"2018-09-04T03:49:14","date_gmt":"2018-09-04T07:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=51006"},"modified":"2018-08-31T16:29:11","modified_gmt":"2018-08-31T20:29:11","slug":"new-it-tools-available-for-students-onedrive-to-replace-h-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/09_04_2018\/new-it-tools-available-for-students-onedrive-to-replace-h-drive","title":{"rendered":"New IT tools available for students, OneDrive to replace H drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toledo\u2019s Information Technology Department is upgrading services to enhance the student experience. <\/p>\n<p>Many new and improved tools are now available, as UT is moving students away from the H drive personal network file storage to Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?attachment_id=51007\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-51007\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/OneDrive-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-51007\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/OneDrive-web.jpg 540w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/OneDrive-web-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a>Students also have access to other products in Microsoft\u2019s Office 365 Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll returning students are encouraged to move any files stored on their H drive to OneDrive as soon as possible,\u201d said Dominic D\u2019Emilio, senior director for network services and technology support. \u201cOn Aug. 18, all existing students had their H drive access changed to read-only, and by Dec. 17, all student H drives will be removed permanently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The benefits of OneDrive include additional storage space (1 terabyte, increased from 512 megabytes), and the ability to access files from anywhere on any device, share files with others, and collaborate on Office documents at the same time. Additionally, OneDrive is secured and encrypted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the decommissioning of student H drives, be sure to know where you are saving files,\u201d D\u2019Emilio said.<\/p>\n<p>Other tips from IT include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 When using a University workstation, save documents to your OneDrive account.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Scan documents to your email account using the Ricoh or Xerox printers on campus. <\/p>\n<p>To log in to Office 365 to use OneDrive and other tools, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/office365.utoledo.edu\">office365.utoledo.edu<\/a>.
