Dr. Sam Spann has been named director of academic engagement in the UT Office of Academic Engagement.<\/p>\n
He will lead the areas of study abroad, study away, service learning and community engagement. He also will work with the Washington Center Internship program and Camp Adventure.<\/p>\n
Spann will advise students who need guidance in exploring these options. He will work closely with the Division of Student Affairs to bridge Academic Affairs and Student Affairs with regard to community outreach, international activities and student engagement.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn accomplishment I expect this role to achieve is to broaden the students\u2019 academic and social experience at The University of Toledo,\u201d Spann said. \u201cIt is essential that students are exposed to as many out-of-the box experiences as possible throughout their college career to prepare them for the world around them.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDr. Spann\u2019s energy and experience will help us grow the UT Learning Collaborative\u2019s academic engagement programs,\u201d said Margaret Traband, UT Learning Collaborative executive director and interim vice provost. \u201cThese unique learning opportunities can truly enhance our students\u2019 college experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Spann began his position in January. His office is located in Sullivan Hall. He has worked at UT seven years, previously serving as director of Camp Adventure.<\/p>\n
He is an alumnus of the University; he graduated in December with a doctorate in special education.<\/p>\n
