{"id":53643,"date":"2019-02-21T02:44:18","date_gmt":"2019-02-21T06:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utnews.utoledo.edu\/?p=53643"},"modified":"2019-02-20T16:46:34","modified_gmt":"2019-02-20T20:46:34","slug":"registration-open-for-youth-patch-day-workshop-at-lake-erie-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/02_21_2019\/registration-open-for-youth-patch-day-workshop-at-lake-erie-center","title":{"rendered":"Registration open for youth Patch Day Workshop at Lake Erie Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday, Feb. 22, is the deadline to register for Partners for Clean Streams\u2019 17th annual Youth Patch Day Workshop.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held Sunday, March 3, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at The University of Toledo\u2019s Lake Erie Center, 6200 Bayshore Road in Oregon. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?attachment_id=53644\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53644\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Partners-for-Clean-Streams-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"362\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-53644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Partners-for-Clean-Streams-logo.jpg 540w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Partners-for-Clean-Streams-logo-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a>The Patch Day Workshop is open to second- through fifth-grade students interested in learning about conservation, as well as Cub Scouts or Girl Scouts seeking to fulfill merit and environmental badge requirements. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOutreach efforts such as Patch Day are meaningful because they bring many organizations together to collaborate on a program that is really meaningful for students,\u201d said Rachel Lohner, education program manager at the Lake Erie Center. \u201cWe work hard to create a theme and content that will interest a broad range of kids. These types of programs are great to inspire students and teach them to respect the world around them.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s workshop theme is \u201cHabitats\u201d and will feature presenters from the city of Oregon, the city of Perrysburg, Wood Soil &#038; Water Conservation District, Lucas Soil &#038; Water Conservation District, the UT Lake Erie Center, and Black Swamp Bird Observatory. In addition, there will be hands-on activities.<\/p>\n<p>This program is an excellent way for youth and their leaders to learn more about their roles in protecting the environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe spark a love of the environment by offering youth fun and hands-on educational activities from an early age,\u201d Lohner said. \u201cIt only takes one person to connect with a student to inspire him or her to go on and do something really great.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Registration can be done online at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.partnersforcleanstreams.org\/pdr\">Partners for Clean Streams website<\/a>.
