A wayward sea turtle suns itself near the southwest corner of Bowman-Oddy Laboratories. And a wave rolls between UToledo Medical Center and Mulford Library.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBirdzels\u201d by Mark Chatterley, \u201cTurtle\u201d by Jonathan Bowling and \u201cBlue Wave\u201d by Mike Sohikian are three of the 10 new works installed for The University of Toledo\u2019s 14th annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_55157\" style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?attachment_id=55157\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55157\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55157\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Birdzels-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"540\" class=\"size-full wp-image-55157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Birdzels-web.jpg 360w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Birdzels-web-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55157\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mark Chatterley\u2019s \u201cBirdzels\u201d are perched on the west side of Centennial Mall.<\/p><\/div>\u201cFor me, \u2018Birdzels\u2019 were meant to be fun. They are a cross between anime, emojis and Angry Birds \u2014 with a little Snoop Dog mixed in,\u201d Chatterley said and laughed. \u201cThey are made from high-fired clay with a crater glaze on the outside. I feel I am pushing the material to make it unrecognizable as clay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bowling\u2019s recycled reptile features a dredge scoop, railroad spikes, horseshoes and stove grates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing able to make something from nothing is what I like to do,\u201d Bowling said. \u201cIt\u2019s economical, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the President\u2019s Commission on Campus Design and Environment, new sculptures sprout up each spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBig Blue X\u201d by Brian Ferriby sits atop the hill west of University Hall, and Glenn Zweygardt\u2019s stainless steel work titled \u201cNew Mexico Passage\u201d shines on the west side of the Student Recreation Center.<\/p>\n<p>Bernie Dominique\u2019s geometric work \u201cFour Square\u201d can be found by the northeast side of Wolfe Hall, and Beau Bilenki\u2019s engineering feat \u201cHole in One\u201d is between Nitschke and Palmer halls.<\/p>\n<p>A 250-pound fish flies near the University Parks Trail and Ottawa House with Michael Angelo Magnotta\u2019s \u201cAbove the Waves.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy sculptures typically begin with a trip to the metal yard,\u201d Magnotta said. \u201cFrom the shapes and textures I rescue, a conversation takes place \u2014 a visual conversation \u2014 that results in my sculptures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_55158\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?attachment_id=55158\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55158\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55158\" src=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Turtle-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"305\" class=\"size-full wp-image-55158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Turtle-web.jpg 540w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Turtle-web-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55158\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cTurtle\u201d by Jonathan Bowling sits near the southwest corner of Bowman-Oddy Laboratories.<\/p><\/div>Gregory Mendez\u2019s forceful \u201cKometes\u201d is located north of Ritter Planetarium, and Kenneth M.
