{"id":59703,"date":"2020-06-05T03:22:11","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T07:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=59703"},"modified":"2020-05-27T11:05:52","modified_gmt":"2020-05-27T15:05:52","slug":"utoledo-alumnus-film-gets-national-play-on-amazon-prime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/06_05_2020\/utoledo-alumnus-film-gets-national-play-on-amazon-prime","title":{"rendered":"UToledo Alumnus&#8217; Film Gets National Play on Amazon Prime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The film \u201cDream Runner\u201d (2020) by University of Toledo alumnus James Aponte is streaming on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/video\/detail\/B085VKXV3Y\/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_r\"><strong>Amazon Prime Video<\/strong><\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s national debut on Amazon is a major step forward in Aponte\u2019s effort to take his film to mainstream audiences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?attachment_id=59704\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-59704\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Dream-Runner.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"222\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-59704\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Dream-Runner.png 540w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Dream-Runner-300x123.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a>\u201cIt&#8217;s been two years of navigating distribution, but I am so happy to say that \u2026 my feature film \u2018Dream Runner\u2019 is now streaming on Amazon Prime!\u201d Aponte, who received a bachelor of arts degree in film and video in 2016, wrote on Facebook announcing the film\u2019s release.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Edmund Lingan, UToledo professor and chair of theatre and film, said he is thrilled that Aponte\u2019s film is receiving national play, but not surprised. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a UToledo student \u2014 and later as a professional filmmaker \u2014 James always proved to be that rare blend of artist and entrepreneur that leads toward professional success. Our department has been proud and happy to support his work from the beginning, and I am sure this is only the beginning of a series of successes in his career that I will enjoy watching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s subject matter leans toward sci-fi, as the opening text makes clear: \u201cHumans no longer dream. Now man-made, dreams are sold in supermarkets, drug stores and fueling stations. Certain dreams are declared illegal by world governments and organizations.
