{"id":60518,"date":"2020-08-17T03:59:34","date_gmt":"2020-08-17T07:59:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=60518"},"modified":"2020-08-13T09:07:01","modified_gmt":"2020-08-13T13:07:01","slug":"racial-equity-at-utoledo-website-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/08_17_2020\/racial-equity-at-utoledo-website-launched","title":{"rendered":"Racial Equity at UToledo Website Launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UToledo Office of Diversity and Inclusion has created a website dedicated to racial equity to serve as a resource for faculty, staff and students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the core values of The University of Toledo is diversity,\u201d said Malaika Bell, program manager in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. \u201cIt is not enough, however, to state that we value diversity. We must also strive toward an inclusive and equitable campus environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/diversity\/equity\/\"><strong>racial equity webpage<\/strong><\/a> will further that mission by serving as a resource for campus community members.<\/p>\n<p>The site offers a comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/diversity\/equity\/terms.html\"><strong>racial lexicon<\/strong><\/a> to make sure everyone is on the same page with frequently used words and phrases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a campus of higher education, we must come to a shared understanding on how these common terms should be used,\u201d Bell said. \u201cThis list will help us continue the conversation by ensuring the quality of the dialogue on race is strengthened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/diversity\/equity\/tools.html\"><strong>faculty toolkit<\/strong><\/a> features links to articles, podcasts, videos, films, TV shows, books, organizations and other resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis toolkit will give faculty members information they need to better understand the University\u2019s dedication to anti-racism and demonstrate the opportunities for growth and change in our diverse and inclusive institution,\u201d Bell said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/diversity\/equity\/trainings.html\"><strong>racial equity trainings<\/strong><\/a> will be available. The first course is titled Getting Comfortable With Talking About Race.
