{"id":65164,"date":"2021-03-17T03:30:49","date_gmt":"2021-03-17T07:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=65164"},"modified":"2021-03-22T16:43:22","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T20:43:22","slug":"fourth-year-med-students-to-learn-residency-placements-march-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/03_17_2021\/fourth-year-med-students-to-learn-residency-placements-march-19","title":{"rendered":"Fourth-Year Med Students to Learn Residency Placements March 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fourth-year medical students at The University of Toledo will soon learn the next step on their journey to becoming attending physicians.<\/p>\n<p>At precisely noon on Friday, March 19, more than 150 students from the UToledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences will join thousands of future physicians across the country in learning where they\u2019ve matched for residency.<\/p>\n<p>The annual event \u2014 which sets the stage for the next three to seven years of their medical training after graduation \u2014 is one of the most anticipated and meaningful moments in the lives of aspiring physicians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMatch Day is always exciting for our students, their families and the faculty and staff who have supported them over the past four years,\u201d said Dr. Christopher Cooper, dean of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. \u201cIt\u2019s a day when our students see the payoff of the tireless work and intense training they\u2019ve put in throughout their medical school career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Traditionally, students receive an envelope with their placement at an in-person celebration. Because of ongoing public health recommendations against large gatherings, students will learn their placement this year via email.<\/p>\n<p>UToledo is celebrating this year\u2019s graduating class with a virtual Match Day ceremony in order to share the moment at home in small groups of friends and family. A live stream will start at 11:30 a.m. on the College of Medicine and Life Sciences <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/med\/match\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Medical students spend months interviewing with hospitals and universities across the country to determine where they want to complete their residency training.<\/p>\n<p>Students rank their top institutions and academic and community-based health systems rank their top student choices.
