{"id":68034,"date":"2021-08-24T03:00:36","date_gmt":"2021-08-24T07:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=68034"},"modified":"2021-08-26T08:26:37","modified_gmt":"2021-08-26T12:26:37","slug":"teacher-supply-pantry-in-need-of-donations-to-assist-area-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/08_24_2021\/teacher-supply-pantry-in-need-of-donations-to-assist-area-schools","title":{"rendered":"Teacher Supply Pantry in Need of Donations to Assist Area Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the school year underway for local children, The University of Toledo is again leading efforts through the Teacher Supply Pantry program to provide teachers at Old Orchard Elementary School and Marshall STEMM Academy with supplies for their students.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the financial limitations for some area schools, a significant number of teachers pay for their students\u2019 school supplies, said \u201csaid Taylor Yarborough,\u00a0Marketing, Communication and Recruitment Specialist for the\u00a0Judith Herb College of Education\u00a0who is heading the project.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/TSP-Donation-Flyer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-68036\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/TSP-Donation-Flyer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/TSP-Donation-Flyer.jpg 600w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/TSP-Donation-Flyer-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>The Teacher Supply Pantry assists those teachers and their students who may have financial barriers to buy school supplies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe teacher pantry provides needed school supplies for the young learners,\u201d said Dr. Raymond H. Witte, dean of the Judith Herb College of Education. \u201cHaving essential school materials sets each student off on a positive academic trajectory, and their smiles are evidence of that important start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pantry is being restocked and is scheduled to open to the two schools by mid-to-late September.<\/p>\n<p>A Judith Herb College of Education alumni affiliate has donated $750 to the Teacher Pantry, but more donations are needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are always looking for donations, either monetary or physical supply donations,\u201d Yarborough said. \u201cWe are working year-round to donate supplies to each of the schools so it\u2019s very important that we keep this campaign going year-round.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are a total of five supply drop-off sites on Main Campus.
