The University of Toledo received two Career Readiness Innovator Awards from SkillSurvey for innovation in measuring and promoting career readiness within the student employment program through Career Services.<\/p>\n
“The University of Toledo knocked it out of the park with their marketing video discussing the importance of SkillSurvey for student evaluations among supervisors \u2014 UToledo consistently draws a high yield of student employee evaluations,” said Randy Bitting, head and co-founder of Career Readiness at SkillSurvey.\u00a0 \u201cThroughout the pilot and now, they model best practices for other colleges and universities.”<\/p>\n
SkillSurvey is an assessment UToledo Career Services uses to measure career readiness through on-campus student employment. The assessment measures the eight essential competencies the National Association of Colleges and Employer deem essential for students to be \u201ccareer-ready\u201d as they transition from college to career. These competencies include career and self-development, critical thinking, communication, equity and inclusion, leadership, professionalism, teamwork and technology.<\/p>\n
SkillSurvey Career Readiness provides career services, student employment and academic programs with individual Career Readiness Reports and first-of-its-kind data to discover insights into how \u201ccareer ready\u201d their institution\u2019s students are compared to students and entry-level job candidates nationally.<\/p>\n
The awards, administered by SkillSurvey, recognize top-performing institutions whose students received the highest evaluator ratings from more than 60,000 supervisors and 20,000 employers following an internship, co-op, on-campus student employment or other work-related experiences across 170-plus institutions. Innovators are recognized for dynamically leveraging SkillSurvey Career Readiness and promoting results.<\/p>\n
Since 2019, Career Services has embedded the SkillSurvey assessment into the on-campus student-employment practice of more than 1,400 students and 140 on-campus hiring departments annually.<\/p>\n
Joshua Vail, student employment specialist in Career Services, has been working with on-campus employers and students to communicate the benefits of the SkillSurvey assessment.<\/p>\n
\u201cSkillSurvey provides students with a unique insight on their professional development, which they can build on as they work towards their career goal,\u201d Vail said. \u201cThe Career Readiness Report students receive helps ensure that our student workers are developing the career competencies employers are seeking in recent college graduates.\u201d<\/p>\n
