{"id":70284,"date":"2021-12-01T18:01:51","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T22:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=70284"},"modified":"2021-12-01T18:02:02","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T22:02:02","slug":"update-on-covid-19-vaccine-requirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/12_01_2021\/update-on-covid-19-vaccine-requirement","title":{"rendered":"Update on COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pair of federal COVID-19 vaccination mandates that would apply to all employees and students in clinical programs at The University of Toledo have been temporarily halted as they are challenged in federal court.<\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s own requirement that faculty, staff and students be vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption by Nov. 15 remains in place.<\/p>\n<p>However, the implementation of the more stringent federal vaccine requirements set out in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/09\/09\/executive-order-on-ensuring-adequate-covid-safety-protocols-for-federal-contractors\/\"><strong>executive<\/strong><strong> order<\/strong><\/a> and a rule from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2021\/11\/05\/2021-23831\/medicare-and-medicaid-programs-omnibus-covid-19-health-care-staff-vaccination\"><strong>Centers for Medicare and Medicaid <\/strong><strong>Services<\/strong><\/a> has been temporarily put on hold. Those federal rules would not allow philosophical exemptions.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the federal requirements, the University <a href=\"http:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/11_23_2021\/university-updates-covid-19-exemption-process-to-comply-with-federal-rules\"><strong>previously announced<\/strong><\/a> it would no longer be permitted to allow philosophical exemptions for any UToledo employees or student learners in healthcare settings. Exemptions for religious or medical reasons would still be permitted.<\/p>\n<p>In the interim while these cases move through the legal process, the University will temporarily continue to recognize philosophical exemptions for the University\u2019s vaccine requirement for all employees and students.
