Angie Gorny, director of the Shah Center for Engineering Career Development at The University of Toledo, was recently announced as the 2021 recipient of the Alvah K. Borman Award.<\/p>\n

Named for Alvah K. Borman, dean of graduate placement services at Northeastern University, for his outstanding contributions to engineering cooperative education, the award is given to past or present members of the Cooperative and Experiential Education Division \u201cwho have made sustained, honorable and meritorious contributions to the promotion of the philosophy and practice of cooperative education in engineering and technology.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gorny<\/p><\/div>\n

Gorny is the chair elect for the Cooperative and Experiential Education Division, which is part of the American Society for Engineering Education, after serving as the conference\u00a0program chair in 2020 and as assistant chair in 2019.\u00a0She also serves as president of the Ohio Cooperative\u00a0Education Association<\/p>\n

\u201cI am humbled and consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been selected as the Borman Award winner,\u201d Gorny said.\u00a0\u201cThis would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication from the Shah Center Team that continues to strive for greatness, as well as the support from our College of Engineering Leadership and Industry Partners. I am grateful for all that they do to enhance our integrated co-op program to be world class.\u201d<\/p>\n

She was nominated by Dr. Matthew Franchetti, associate dean of undergraduate studies at UToledo, and Jonathan Gordon, global talent acquisition manager at Place\u00a0Technologies.<\/p>\n

\u201cAngie contributes to the advancement of Engineering Cooperative\u00a0education through her commitment to the advancement and strengthening of the professional\u00a0organizations that support this educational tool,\u201d Franchetti said. \u201cAnd she has worked to streamline the organizational roles to better align\u00a0responsibilities and create synergy of efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Added Gordon: \u201cAngie is a true advocate for engineering\u00a0cooperative education, and her involvement is a testament to the passion she has for\u00a0contributing to this field.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gorny will receive the award next month at the 2022 Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration in Tempe, Arizona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"<\/a>
