{"id":71769,"date":"2022-02-25T03:20:20","date_gmt":"2022-02-25T07:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=71769"},"modified":"2022-02-28T09:53:18","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T13:53:18","slug":"utmc-leadership-shares-forward-momentum-at-town-hall-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/02_25_2022\/utmc-leadership-shares-forward-momentum-at-town-hall-meeting","title":{"rendered":"UTMC Leadership Shares Forward Momentum at Town Hall Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a series of town hall meetings on Tuesday, leaders from The University of Toledo Medical Center shared a comprehensive update on UTMC operations during the past two years, detailing key investments, retention and recruitment efforts, and new initiatives aimed at reestablishing important clinical services.<\/p>\n<p>UTMC Chief Executive Officer Rick Swaine provided an update on 10 key priorities for a successful turnaround for UTMC:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 New leadership<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Evaluating compensation levels<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Securing new federal and state funding<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Obtaining additional reimbursement from Medicaid<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Improving the work environment<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Recruiting new physicians<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Adding and improving partnerships<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Reestablishing important clinical services<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 New marketing efforts<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Recruiting additional staff<\/p>\n<p>One of the most significant recent actions was UTMC receiving approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on an initiative that will generate additional revenue for the hospital by receiving a higher reimbursement rate from Medicaid.<\/p>\n<p>Swaine discussed ongoing and planned work to implement EPIC as UTMC\u2019s electronic medical record system, renovations planned for the Ryan White Center, Dana Cancer Center and Kobacker Center, and the addition of several new major diagnostic tools.<\/p>\n<p>UTMC is investing more than $20 million this year in capital improvements. That includes the conversion to EPIC, which is set to go live in September 2022, a new MRI machine and upgrades to the cardiac cath lab.<\/p>\n<p>UTMC also is set to begin operating as a Level 2 trauma center in mid-April and open a refreshed surgical intensive care unit later this spring.
