{"id":71813,"date":"2022-02-28T03:40:24","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T07:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=71813"},"modified":"2022-02-28T15:06:47","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T19:06:47","slug":"rockets-team-up-with-mlk-academy-for-toledo-museum-of-art-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/02_28_2022\/rockets-team-up-with-mlk-academy-for-toledo-museum-of-art-tour","title":{"rendered":"Rockets Team Up With MLK Academy for Toledo Museum of Art Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Toledo football team partnered with the Art Tatum Zone, the Toledo Museum of Art and Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for Boys for a tour of the museum&#8217;s special armor exhibit on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty Rockets met the grade-school boys at the school, then traveled to the Toledo Museum of Art to experience the\u00a0\u201cAge of Armor: Treasures from the Higgins Armory Collection at the Worcester Museum\u201d\u00a0exhibition and engage in hands-on art projects.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_71815\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Football-at-Museum.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71815\" class=\"wp-image-71815\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Football-at-Museum.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Football-at-Museum.jpg 748w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Football-at-Museum-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-71815\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A group of 20 Rocket football players visited the Toledo Museum of Art on Friday along with students from Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for Boys.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The group also went to the Museum&#8217;s Little Theater, where the players shared with the students the importance of putting on their &#8220;armor&#8221; (football uniform and equipment) to face battles on the field and in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>The event concluded with a lunch at the MLK Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Calvin Sweeney, president of the Art Tatum Zone, a local non-profit community organization, as well as chaplain for the Toledo football team, helped coordinate the event.<\/p>\n<p>A conversation Sweeney had with museum director Adam Levine about the armor exhibit and its historical connection to the protective gear worn by today&#8217;s football players led to the idea of connecting Rocket football players with local youth and the touring armor exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>Each football player was paired with an MLK Academy student for the tour, and will continue to serve in a mentoring capacity with his match in the future.
