The University of Toledo is raising awareness about domestic and intimate partner violence, and the resources available to the campus community with October\u2019s Purple Ribbon Campaign.<\/p>\n

The Purple Ribbon Campaign is an effort by the Title IX Office, in partnership with UToledo Facilities and Construction and Supply Chain, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.<\/p>\n

As a symbol of courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending intimate partner violence, purple ribbons will be placed on light poles throughout the UToledo campuses.<\/p><\/div>\n

As a symbol of courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending intimate partner violence, purple ribbons will be placed on light poles at Centennial Mall on Main Campus and in the courtyard of UTMC and Mulford Library on The University of Toledo\u2019s Health Science Campus.<\/p>\n

Attached to the ribbons will be a QR code that shares stories of those impacted by domestic violence in a collaboration with Bethany House of Toledo and information on how to seek resources on campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that the purple ribbons will encourage the UToledo community to learn more about domestic and intimate partner violence and its impact on those affected, their families, and friends,\u201d said Vicky Kulicke, director of Title IX and Compliance and Title IX Coordinator. \u201cThe goal is to bring awareness to the exhibit and spark discussion amongst individuals \u00a0related to healthy relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 10 million people in one year.<\/p>\n

The Title IX Office encourages the UToledo community to participate in the campaign this month by wearing purple and tying purple ribbons to their car antennas and bookbags, and to encourage their peers to do the same. Purple ribbons convey a message that domestic violence is not welcome in our homes, communities, workplace, schools, or neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage students, faculty and staff to learn about and utilize the Title IX Office,\u201d said Centraya Forbes, Title IX graduate assistant. \u201cThere are several options and resources available for the entire UToledo community, and we hope that we can continue to spread awareness on sexual misconduct, including domestic and dating violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

UToledo\u2019s Title IX Office ensures compliance with federal law. The Title IX Office investigates reports of sexual misconduct, implements supportive measures when necessary and works to remedy the effects of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n
