Dr. Allyson Day, associate professor of disability studies at The University of Toledo, and five UToledo alumni were named to the \u201c20 Under 40\u201d list, an annual recognition of 20 distinguished community leaders from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan who are younger than 40 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so surprised to be nominated and did not find out until the reception held before the ceremony who had nominated me,\u201d Day said. \u201cI was chatting with one of our alums, Katie Shelly, who works in access initiatives at the Toledo Art Museum (she was also nominated) and she came clean that she was the nominator.<\/p>\n

Day<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cIt meant so much more knowing it was a student who thought to recognize my work, from my teaching here at UToledo to my activist work and doula work in the community. And I squeaked in just in time since I will be 40 this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Day said that 2022 had been a great year, having received a national award from the National Women’s Studies Association for her first published book in October 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest,\u201d she said, \u201cthere were so many amazing people recognized, and definitely the stage was heavy with smart, talented women who are doing amazing things for Toledo, from the art museum to the metro parks to small businesses like funeral homes and pizza shops.\u201d<\/p>\n

The five UToledo alumni named to the \u201c20 Under 40\u201d list:<\/p>\n

Daniel Costello, who graduated with a bachelor\u2019s degree in business administration. Costello, 33, serves as a global purchasing director at Dana Inc. and is the youngest person at a director level within Dana Inc. globally.<\/p>\n

Raina Dawson, who received her bachelor\u2019s, master of business administration and juris doctor from The University of Toledo. Dawson is an attorney at ABLE (Advocates for Basic Legal Equality Inc.) and advocates for residents in the Junction neighborhood in Toledo.<\/p>\n

Marjory Marshall, who earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in women and gender studies, a master\u2019s degree in public administration and a doctor of education degree at The University of Toledo. Marshall is the operations director at TutorSmart.<\/p>\n

Dylan Orwig, who earned his bachelor of science degree in construction engineering technology at UToledo. Orwig is the business development manager at Lathrop, a subsidiary of Turner Construction.<\/p>\n

Anna Schroeder who received her bachelor of science degree in public health from UToledo. Schroeder is an attorney who practiced at Eastman and Smith prior to joining the Trust Department at Huntington Bank.<\/p>\n
