In the final official meeting of the 2022-23 Faculty Senate, three Senate committee chairs were recognized for their extraordinary leadership and service to The University of Toledo.<\/p>\n

Dr. Deborah Coulter-Harris, a senior lecturer in the Department of English Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Letters, was recognized for her two-year leadership of the Faculty Senate Committee on Student Affairs. She and her committee conducted a significant amount of research and conducted numerous interviews with students and University administrators, which resulted in eight detailed reports with numerous recommendations that were submitted to University leaders.<\/p>\n

Dr. Patrick Lawrence, a professor and chair of the Department of Geography and Planning in the College of Arts and Letters, served with distinction as chair of the Faculty Senate Committee on Academic Programs for three years. This committee is essential to the governance of the University\u2019s academic programs as we embarked on the critical mission of educating the future leaders of Ohio, our country and the world.<\/p>\n

Dr. Anthony Edgington, an associate professor in the Department of English Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Letters, performed truly astonishing work as the chair of the Faculty Senate Committee on Undergraduate Curriculum for the past five years. His leadership was truly admirable as he and his committee review and recommend for approval literally all new courses and course modifications in the university\u2019s extensive educational offerings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese three remarkable leaders and their committees truly performed Herculean work during very difficult times for our students and University colleagues,\u201d said Dr. Gary Insch, past-president of the Faculty Senate. \u201cFaculty governance is essential to fulfilling the University\u2019s mission of providing a world-class education to our students.
