The Toledo men’s tennis team has earned its sixth-consecutive ITA All-Academic Team honor, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Additionally, four Rockets earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status for their academic accomplishments during the 2022-23 season.<\/p>\n

Luis Kleinschnitz,\u00a0Vlad Meluta,\u00a0Max Skaer and\u00a0Pawit Sornlaksup\u00a0were recognized this season. This is Skaer’s fourth ITA academic honor, third for Kleinschnitz, and second honor for Meluta and Sornlaksup. Toledo, the No. 8 ranked team in the Midwest Region, produced a\u00a03.602\u00a0GPA this year.<\/p>\n

Sornlaksup, who was named MAC Player of the Year for the second time in his career, maintained a 3.78 GPA while working towards a degree in information systems. The No. 20 ranked singles player in the Midwest Region has only extended his list of athletic and academic accomplishments this season:\u00a0First Team All-MAC, MAC All-Tournament Team, MAC Tournament MVP, CSC Academic All-District, Team and ITA Midwest Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and \u00a0Sportsmanship Award Winner. Sornlaksup ended dual competition on a 43-match winning streak that was established in January of 2022 and went an undefeated 10-0 against MAC opponents for the second-straight season.<\/p>\n

Kleinschnitz graduated this past May with a degree in university studies with a concentration in education with a 3.84 GPA, and was one of two Rockets to earn a spot on the Academic All-MAC Team. He ended his final season as a Rocket on a seven-match unbeaten singles streak from the No. 6 court, a 22-11 (7-1 MAC) singles record, and 14-14 (5-3 MAC) doubles record playing mostly from the No. 3 court. Kleinschnitz clinched match point six times for the Rockets this season, and was the only Rocket to win a set in the NCAA Tournament First Round vs. Michigan.<\/p>\n

Skaer also graduated this past May with a degree in accounting and a 3.92 GPA. He made his final appearance as a Rocket this season, sporting a 2-2 doubles record from the No. 3 court.<\/p>\n

Meluta earned a 3.88 GPA this year and is working towards a nursing degree. He went 4-12 in singles and 5-9 in doubles competition, a majority of his competition was played during the fall season.<\/p>\n

For an individual to earn Scholar-Athlete status, he must have a GPA of at least 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year and be listed on the institution eligibility form. For a team to earn All-Academic honors, the program must have a 3.2 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale, have all student-athletes listed on the institution eligibility form, and all varsity letterwinners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"Photo<\/a>
