{"id":89735,"date":"2024-11-26T03:30:51","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T07:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=89735"},"modified":"2024-11-27T09:49:50","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T13:49:50","slug":"senior-rocket-runner-finds-success-in-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/11_26_2024\/senior-rocket-runner-finds-success-in-business","title":{"rendered":"Senior Rocket Runner Finds Success in Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even before his first semester at UToledo, Geoff Howles said he was drawn to the future of UToledo running.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI began running competitively in seventh grade and continued throughout high school,\u201d Howles said. \u201cRunning at the collegiate level became a major goal of mine, and that ultimately brought me to UToledo as I was recruited to run cross country here in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_58894\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58894\" class=\"size-full wp-image-58894\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Graduation-Cap_blue-500x500-e1586882554282.png\" alt=\"Graduation Cap\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-58894\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CELEBRATING SUCCESS: UToledo recognizes the Class of 2024 with a series of stories featuring students receiving their degrees at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/commencement\/\">fall commencement<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Howles, now set to graduate Dec. 14 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in business administration, ran through three years of his time at UToledo, working hard to support the Toledo men\u2019s cross country team.<\/p>\n<p>This culminated in the team\u2019s win at the 2024 Mid-American Conference championship earlier in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe win was a full-circle moment that is truly a testament to all the amazing teammates, coaches and staff that I\u2019ve been surrounded by the last four years,\u201d Howles said. \u201cThe people make the place, and UToledo has become a second home to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tito Medrano, associate head coach of the men\u2019s cross country team, said Howles is the epitome of a team player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeoff is always putting his teammates first and fostering a culture of unity and positivity,\u201d Medrano said. \u201cHis steady mindset and relaxed demeanor set a calming tone for the team, while his unwavering positive energy lifts everyone during even the toughest practices. Geoff&#8217;s coachability and dedication to improvement make him a joy to work with, and his genuine care for his teammates goes beyond the track. I loved the balance of both analytical \u2018hard\u2019 skills and people-oriented \u2018soft\u2019 skills the career required.
