{"id":89811,"date":"2024-12-03T03:40:20","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T07:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=89811"},"modified":"2024-12-04T09:51:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T13:51:00","slug":"utoledo-couple-finds-love-in-graduate-school-starts-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/12_03_2024\/utoledo-couple-finds-love-in-graduate-school-starts-family","title":{"rendered":"UToledo Couple Finds Love in Graduate School, Starts Family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>William and Alivia Sparrow both came to the UToledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences for the physician assistants (PA) program.<\/p>\n<p>Through their pursuit of education, they found one another.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_58894\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58894\" class=\"size-full wp-image-58894\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Graduation-Cap_blue-500x500-e1586882554282.png\" alt=\"Graduation Cap\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-58894\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CELEBRATING SUCCESS: UToledo recognizes the Class of 2024 with a series of stories featuring students receiving their degrees at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/commencement\/\">fall commencement<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe met early on in the PA program. We spent a decent amount of time together because we were a part of the same friend group. Over time I grew to greatly appreciate the energy and excitement Alivia brought to our interactions,\u201d William said. \u201cIt&#8217;s crazy to think that we wouldn\u2019t have met if it wasn\u2019t for us both being accepted into the PA program at the same time, and I wouldn\u2019t be sitting here feeling like the luckiest man alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not long after, William and Alivia were engaged and expecting a new addition to their family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found out that I was pregnant right before starting clinical rotations and that our daughter would arrive in September,\u201d Alivia said. \u201cBelieve it or not, the timing of everything worked out in such a way that I would still be on track to graduate with our class. William has been extremely supportive throughout this whole experience, and I could not imagine life without him or our beautiful daughter, Sophia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple navigated clinical rotations, exams and Alivia\u2019s pregnancy all at once.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy greatest challenge was completing my clinical rotations while pregnant and postpartum,\u201d Alivia said. \u201cThis is something that is difficult for all women but was especially for me as a full-time student in a rigorous graduate program.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_89812\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89812\" class=\"wp-image-89812\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/William-Alivia-Sparrow-graduate-students-SIDE-12032024.jpeg\" alt=\"Photo of William and Alivia Sparrow and their infant daughter, Sophia. They started a family and now will each graduate with a master of science degree in biomedical sciences on Dec. 14.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>They married on Sept. 15 in a small ceremony. Ten days later, their daughter, Sophia, was born.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI married my wife, started our family and graduated with a master\u2019 s degree all in the same year,\u201d William said. \u201cIt has been a whirlwind of a time and probably the most challenging period of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graduating Dec. 14, both William and Alivia will be receiving their master of science degree in biomedical sciences.<\/p>\n<p>The couple is thankful to UToledo for bringing them together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am extremely grateful for everything that UToledo has given me in the 27 months that I have spent here,\u201d Alivia said. \u201cNot only was I given an excellent education, but it was where I met my best friend and now husband.
