In Chuck we have found a high energy and collaborative leader who can succeed in this new role to grow our healthcare enterprise and better serve our community,\u201d UToledo Interim President Matt Schroeder said. \u201cHe understands our important role as an academic medical center with a teaching and research mission and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care and safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Callahan spent much of his career in administrative roles at Memorial Health in Springfield, Illinois, including serving as president of the five hospital Memorial Hospital Group and president and CEO of the 500-bed Springfield Memorial Hospital, as well as chief operating officer and chief quality officer.<\/p>\n<p>Callahan is board certified in rehabilitation psychology and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am incredibly excited to join The University of Toledo. To have the opportunity to serve the community through an academically informed healthcare system is exactly where I want to be. Enhancing both individual and community health through the resources of this University is a tremendous opportunity for which I\u2019m extremely grateful,\u201d Callahan said. \u201cHealthcare is a team sport, and I was thoroughly impressed with the colleagues I met during this interview process. Their commitment and expertise made this a team I really want to be part of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the UToledo Health executive vice president for health affairs, Callahan will work to further collaboration between the University of Toledo Medical Center, University of Toledo Physicians and the UToledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hospital team is excited to welcome Dr. Callahan to UToledo and continue efforts underway to optimize UToledo Health and enhance the services we provide our community both at our hospital and also at clinics throughout the region,\u201d UTMC CEO Dan Barbee said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith his experience in an academic medical center setting, we look forward to Dr. Callahan\u2019s support of our faculty, residents and students and of our mission for medical education and research as we provide exceptional clinical care,\u201d said Dr. Imran Ali, interim dean of the UToledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis leadership role is an important part of our efforts to better align our physician practice with the goals of the hospital and medical school. Our providers are ready to work with Dr. Callahan to continue to enhance UToledo Health,\u201d said Dr. Jason Schroeder, interim chief physician executive for University of Toledo Physicians.<\/p>\n<p>Callahan earned his Ph.D. and master\u2019s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Nebraska\u2010Lincoln, his M.B.A. from the University of Illinois\u2010Springfield and his bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology from Creighton University.<\/p>\n<p>He has more than 50 professional publications in the areas of brain injury rehabilitation, neuropsychology, emergency\/trauma medicine, healthcare process improvement and outcomes measurement. He previously served on the editorial boards of Rehabilitation Psychology and The Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>Callahan completed the Baldrige National Quality Executive Fellowship in 2018 and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
