Award winners will be announced March 7-8 in New York.

Trip Floyd and Tanner Schultz were both nominated for Best Live Music Broadcast. Floyd, the producer of the show, and Schultz, the audio engineer, hosted the Bowling Green based band Respirator in their live broadcast titled “STAFF MEETING: Live! From Rocket Hall with Respirator.” The episode is available to watch via YouTube.

Floyd created the show as an independent study project last year to showcase local musicians.

“We film a live session and interview in our TV studio in the Comm Department in Rocket Hall,” Floyd said. “The learning experience, both for me and the students who have helped make these broadcasts happen, has really been great as the quality of these live sessions has just continued to get better and better.”

Schultz said he hoped the recognition of their broadcast would show other students on campus the merits of getting involved on campus.

“Personally, this award is really cool to me. This show was actually my first time recording live music so being nominated for a national award is insanity,” Schultz said. “I also hope this award lets people see that there is tons to do at UToledo. WXUT is an organization that is not major specific, anyone can join and could even have their own radio show. Overall, I just hope it lets people see they can step outside their majors on campus and enjoy their hobbies.”

Asa Kridelbaugh was nominated for Best Show Promo. His show, “Flying with the Ace,” covers classic rock from the vinyl and cassette era.

Kridelbaugh said the nomination gave him validation that he was on the right career path.

“The nomination means a lot to me,” Kridelbaugh said. “It doesn’t even feel like it’s just for me, it’s for the people that got me to this point, my family, everyone who works in the station, and the lovely people on the panel of my radio show.”

Floyd, an assistant manager at the station, was also nominated for Best Station Manager, being only one of five finalists.

Floyd has done extensive work to revive UToledo’s radio station, bringing it up from just 10 members and 4 radio shows when he first joined to now over 60 members with 20 student-run shows. His show, “STAFF MEETING,” was not only his own creation, but also serves to train new members into giving them the power to run their own programs.

“I was seriously humbled to be nominated,” Floyd said. “I’m so proud of all the work we as a station have put into the past two years to be recognized as such. Being a finalist for this award is a reflection of the hard work of all our directors, and especially my fellow station manager, Logan McCrory.”

Dr. Benjamin Myers, chair of the Department of Communication and Media, said that the students’ success was no surprise.

“Trip, Tanner and Asa are exceptionally talented in media production, consistently delivering impactful, high-quality work,” Myers said. “Not only are they shining stars in their craft, but they’re also leaders in our department. We’re proud to support them as they showcase UToledo’s talent on the national stage at the IBS Awards.”

The winners of the awards will be announced during the IBS conference at the Sheraton Times Square Hotel in New York City from Friday, March 7, to Saturday, March 8. With the support of the Student Allocation committee and the Department of Communications and Media, the nominees will be able to attend the conference in person.

Trip Floyd, Tanner Schultz and Asa Kridelbaugh were recognized by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System for their standout work at UToledo’s student-run station.

[50,60,1,7
