Shawn Kirchner, a celebrated composer whose works are performed around the world, will be the guest clinician at The University of Toledo\u2019s High School Choral Festival on Saturday, March 29.<\/p>\n

More than 30 vocalists representing more than 10 regional high schools are set to work with Kirchner at the UToledo Center for Performing Arts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., culminating in a free, public performance in Doermann Theatre at 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Shawn Kirchner is a composer, arranger and songwriter whose commissions include numerous premieres with the Los Angeles Master Chorale.<\/p><\/div>\n

Kirchner is a composer, arranger and songwriter based in Los Angeles. His works blend classical choral and instrumental traditions with the inheritance of the folk, carol and hymn traditions, with commissions including numerous premieres with the Los Angeles Master Chorale at Los Angeles\u2019 Walt Disney Concert Hall.<\/p>\n

On Saturday he will work with high school vocalists to prepare four of his own pieces to perform in Doermann Theatre, including the jazzy \u201cHummingbird\u201d and the bluegrass-inspired \u201cI\u2019ll Be On My Way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so excited to have such talented high school musicians from across northwest Ohio visit our campus to work with such a renowned choral composer,\u201d said Dr. Micah Bland, director of choral activities at UToledo. “It will be a positive and memorable experience for all.”<\/p>\n
