My mother was my first donor, and I was fortunate to have made it 23 years before I went into renal failure for the second time.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_58894\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58894\" class=\"size-full wp-image-58894\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Graduation-Cap_blue-500x500-e1586882554282.png\" alt=\"Graduation Cap\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-58894\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CELEBRATING SUCCESS: UToledo recognizes the Class of 2025 with a series of stories featuring students receiving their degrees at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoledo.edu\/commencement\/\">spring commencement<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Trahan is diagnosed with hemolytic uremic syndrome, a rare condition that affects the small blood vessels in kidneys to be damaged. In 2020, Trahan received her second kidney transplant, which unfortunately lasted less than two years before she needed a third in October of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI underwent dialysis and my surgery,\u201d she said. \u201cDuring all of this I managed to stay in school, thanks to UToledo. The staff were so accommodating and being able to take my classes online meant I was never limited in my ability to pursue my degree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graduating Saturday, May 3 with her bachelor of science in health information administration, Trahan said being a three-time kidney transplant recipient made her more passionate about working in the healthcare industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI chose UToledo&#8217;s online health information administration program because it offers flexibility I need as a working professional while also providing a well-rounded curriculum that directly applies to real-world healthcare challenges,\u201d she said. \u201cThe program&#8217;s support, faculty and career-focused coursework has made it a perfect fit for my goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nilgun Sezginis, director in the Health Information Administration Program, said she was surprised to hear about Trahan\u2019s surgery during the course of her studies at UToledo.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_92203\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92203\" class=\"wp-image-92203\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Isabel-Trahan-3H5A6608-MAIN.jpg\" alt=\"Portrait of senior Isabel Trahan, who is graduating with a bachelor\u2019s degree in healthcare administration on May 3.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Isabel-Trahan-3H5A6608-MAIN.jpg 748w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Isabel-Trahan-3H5A6608-MAIN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-92203\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Isabel Trahan has had three kidney transplants \u2014 most recently in 2023 \u2014 and credits UToledo for helping her graduate on schedule with a bachelor\u2019s degree in health information administration on May 3.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cShe did not even ask for an extension for her assignments or exams,\u201d Sezginis said. \u201cI found Isabel\u2019s story inspiring, and I believe she can serve as a role model for future traditional or non-traditional students. I have no doubt that she will be moving up the ladder into a higher-level management position while contributing to the care of nephrology patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trahan said she has been interested in healthcare for most of her life and has been working in the field for the last 10 years. She is currently employed at Nephrology Consultants of Northwest Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love my job and plan to continue here after my graduation,\u201d Trahan said. \u201cThe dream is to eventually become the business administrator, whether it is at my current place of employment or if I find myself somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although she has attended other colleges in pursuit of her degree, Trahan said only UToledo gave her the power to accomplish her dreams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, I should have gone to UToledo from the beginning,\u201d she said. \u201cThe staff and professors here have been so wonderful, compared to my experiences at other colleges.
