UToledo Health experts in a wide range of medical specialties will share advice on healthy aging and insights on how older adults can best manage a number of common chronic conditions at an upcoming event hosted by the Toledo Lucas County Library.<\/p>\n

\u201cLive Well, Age Well: Senior Health & Services Expo\u201d will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Main Library in downtown Toledo.<\/p>\n

\"UToledoThe expo is free and open to all, though registration is encouraged. Individuals may register online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

UToledo Health physicians, pharmacists and dietitians will lead several 50-minute sessions, focusing on topics including medication affordability, graceful aging, healthy eating, controlling diabetes, treatment options for Parkinson\u2019s disease, dementia care and more.<\/p>\n

Nurses from UToledo Health\u2019s trauma team also will be leading Tai Chi demonstrations and offering Stop the Bleed training, which teaches individuals how to properly use pressure, dressings and tourniquets to control life-threatening bleeding in an emergency.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we age, our healthcare needs change. It\u2019s important not only to recognize that, but also to ensure older adults have the information, support and care they need to age well,\u201d\u00a0said Dr. Meylin Robertson, a UToledo Health family and geriatric medicine specialist and one of the event\u2019s panelists. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to partner with the Toledo Library on this event and to help empower everyone in our community to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLive Well, Age Well: Senior Health & Services Expo\u201d is part of the Toledo Library\u2019s Main Library Takeover series, which brings library patrons unique experiences in partnership with various community organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Toledo Library is a central gathering place for Lucas County residents,\u201d said Jason Kucsma, Toledo Library executive director. \u201cThrough this ongoing collaboration with UToledo Health, our institutions are creating opportunities for the community to learn about health, wellness and how to support one another.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to UToledo Health, a number of organizations, service providers and area businesses will be represented, including the Alzheimer\u2019s Association, the Area Office on Aging, the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio, Mobile Meals of Toledo, Pathway Inc., and the U.S. Secret Service, which will lead a pair of fraud prevention seminars.<\/p>\n

UToledo Health\u2019s mobile health unit also will be offering free preventative health screenings during the expo.<\/p>\n

The mobile health unit, which provides free blood pressure checks and as well as cholesterol, blood glucose and A1C testing, makes bimonthly visits to six library branches throughout the community \u2014 a service that began last summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"UToledo<\/a>
