Ashton Widenhoefer chose The University of Toledo because it was the first campus where she could envision herself being successful academically and socially.<\/p>\n

\u201cUT offers vast opportunities for involvement and leadership while providing unique academic experiences for us as students to learn and be prepared for our futures,\u201d she said. \u201cThis campus and community have truly become my home, and I am so grateful I made the decision to become a Rocket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ashton Widenhoefer, 21, chose UToledo because it was the first campus where she could envision herself being successful academically and socially.<\/p><\/div>\n

And Widenhoefer chose to pursue a bachelor\u2019s degree in nursing because of her deep desire to help others and make a meaningful impact in their lives.<\/p>\n

Those decisions are reflected in the senior\u2019s next big step as a Rocket: student trustee.<\/p>\n

Widenhoefer, 21, from Woodburn, Indiana, was named by Gov. Mike DeWine to a student trustee term beginning July 2, 2025, and\u00a0ending July 1, 2027. She joins Nate Boley, a senior studying in the Edward Schmidt School of Professional Sales in the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation, on the UToledo Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n

Widenhoefer said her role as student trustee is similar to her studies in nursing and her involvement in campus organizations because she will be advocating for others.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis position is about making sure student voices are heard and their needs are considered in decisions that impact their education and overall college experience,\u201d she said. \u201cServing in this capacity means contributing to the well-being and success of our students and University, which aligns closely with my passion for helping others both inside and outside of healthcare.<\/p>\n

\u201cI approach this position with a commitment to listen actively, communicate transparently and collaborate with fellow board members to enhance the student experience. My goal is to serve as a bridge between students and administration and help to create a supportive campus environment that promotes student success.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the first member of her family to enroll at UToledo, Widenhoefer has embraced campus involvement and student activities during her time as a student.<\/p>\n

She has served on the executive boards of Presidential Ambassadors, Relay for Life and Kappa Delta Sorority; as the director of marketing for the Big Event; as alumni relations chair and ambassador for Blue Key Honor Society as Brother 9. She is a member of Levis Leadership and Order of Omega and served as a UToledo tour guide.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing involved in many organizations on campus has been vital to my growth and development as both a person and student leader,\u201d she said. \u201cThese experiences have given me insight into many different groups and corners of campus, helped me build leadership skills, connect with peers and develop a strong sense of community. Staying engaged on campus has given me confidence and prepared me to represent and advocate for students effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her experience as a nursing student also has proven to be invaluable, Widenhoefer said, helping her develop a strong sense of compassion, patience and attentiveness.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a student trustee, I am eager to contribute by bringing the student perspective to the table and ensuring the needs and priorities of the student body are considered in decision-making,\u201d Widenhoefer said. \u201cBy collaborating with University leaders, faculty and fellow board members, I hope to help foster a campus environment that supports academic excellence, student success and community engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"Portrait<\/a>
