{"id":97122,"date":"2026-02-16T03:45:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T07:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/?p=97122"},"modified":"2026-02-17T09:48:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T13:48:39","slug":"college-of-law-to-join-ohio-governors-expedited-pardon-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/index.php\/02_16_2026\/college-of-law-to-join-ohio-governors-expedited-pardon-project","title":{"rendered":"College of Law to Join Ohio Governor\u2019s Expedited Pardon Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toledo College of Law is joining a network of service providers working to reduce barriers to clemency through the Ohio Governor\u2019s Expedited Pardon Project.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ohioexpeditedpardon.org\">Ohio Governor\u2019s Expedited Pardon Project<\/a> is a statewide initiative designed to streamline the pardon application process for eligible Ohioans who have demonstrated rehabilitation and positive contributions to their communities. It was launched by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine in 2019 in partnership with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Drug Enforcement and Policy Center and the University of Akron School of Law Reentry Clinic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_97123\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-97123\" class=\"wp-image-97123\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/LAW-BUILDING-SNOW-01152026-0145.jpg\" alt=\"A winter beauty photo of the outside of the College of Law building with snow.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/LAW-BUILDING-SNOW-01152026-0145.jpg 748w, https:\/\/news.utoledo.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/LAW-BUILDING-SNOW-01152026-0145-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-97123\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The College of Law is joining a network of service providers working to reduce barriers to clemency through the Ohio Governor\u2019s Expedited Pardon Project.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The UToledo College of Law is the latest partner to join the Expedited Pardon Project supported by $100,000 from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. The grant funds will support a new clinical professor who will work with students to assist clients in obtaining expedited pardons.<\/p>\n<p>Their work, which is expected to be underway this summer, reflects the college\u2019s commitment to community engagement, public service and preparing students to address real-world legal challenges through experiential learning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The College of Law is honored to be included in this important statewide project,\u201d said Rebecca Zietlow, dean of the College of Law. \u201cThis grant will give our students a hands-on opportunity to learn about our criminal justice system by representing clients in a life-changing process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to welcome The University of Toledo College of Law into the Ohio Governor\u2019s Expedited Pardon Project,\u201d said Professor Douglas A.
